Need help to speed up your website?
The worst thing that can happen when someone visits your website is that your images and other contents take forever to load. It’s frustrating and it repels visitors. If your website takes more than 10 seconds to load, it’s slow and it’s time to speed it up so that people stick around or come back.
There are a couple of simple steps you can take to avoid this tech monster. Today I am sharing 5 that you can apply now.
Delete Outdated and Non-Essential Plugins
If you’re not using a plugin, keeping it around is using extra space on your server which can slow down your website. Outdated plugins can interfere with other plugins or worse break your website when you do a simple update. Make sure you delete them completely.
Use The Latest Version of WordPress
Using the latest version of WordPress can speed up your website and keep it safe. Hackers use a backdoor technique where they access outdated WordPress version or plugins. They install malicious codes and do whatever they want on your website without your knowledge.
Speed Up Your Website Reducing Image Size
When you buy stock images, they may look small but they actually take a lot of disk space if you don’t optimize them. Optimizing your image is reducing its size so that it takes less space and loads faster. There is a free app called ImageOptim you can download on your computer that will help you reduce your image size. You’ll simply drag and drop the images.
Do Not Store Your Videos On Your Website
Loading videos directly to your WordPress media folder will eventually slow down your website a lot. It’s best to use video hosting services like YouTube or Vimeo and embed the video codes on your website.
Install a Cache Plugin
A cache plugin helps reduce the size of your pages by compressing them before your browser renders the pages to your visitors. Your pages load faster and your visitor’s experience is highly improved. An effective and FREE cache plugin that’s been around for years you can use is W3 Total Cache check it out!
You have your homework for this week. Don’t delay taking those steps. They will save you time, money and a whole lot of frustrations.
Until next time,
