Is It Really Launch Work… Or Just Busy Work in Disguise?
Is It Really Launch Work… Or Just Busy Work in Disguise?
Let’s be honest for a minute…
If I peeked into your workday, I bet I’d see a lot going on.
Your calendar has color-coded blocks.
Your browser is packed with open tabs.
Your to-do list is… intimidating.
And I know you're not just sitting around, you’re busy.
But what if I told you that being busy doesn’t always mean you’re making progress?
What if I said some of your actions might be a launch delay in disguise?
Yep. Even the most driven, brilliant entrepreneurs fall into this trap, confusing motion with momentum.
That’s not a judgment, it’s a pattern I’ve seen over and over again in my own business and with clients who come to me wondering why they’re still not launched after months of “working on it.”
So today, I want to break down the subtle (but critical) difference between busy work and actual launch work, so you can start making moves that matter.
The Busy Work Trap: Why It Feels Productive (But Isn’t)
Busy work has a way of seducing us.
It gives our brains the dopamine hit of checking something off the list, even if that task was never all that important in the first place.
It creates the illusion that we're in forward motion when, really, we're just doing laps in the same mental cul-de-sac.
You know the kind of tasks I’m talking about:
Tweaking your font choices (again)
Watching yet another video on how to write a compelling CTA
Downloading your fifth freebie about sales pages
Reorganizing your folders so you can “feel more clear.”
Changing your branding because it just doesn’t feel right yet
These tasks feel like work.
They’re often rooted in good intentions.
But they don’t bring your offer any closer to your audience’s hands. And they definitely don’t help you launch.
Here’s the uncomfortable truth: Busy work is often a form of procrastination wrapped in productivity clothing.
It’s easier to fiddle with the surface than to sit down and decide, write the copy, or build the page.
What Real Launch Work Looks Like (Spoiler: It’s Not as Sexy)
If busy work is a security blanket, then launch work is a mirror.
It asks you to look at your strategy, make clear decisions, and move forward, even if it’s imperfect.
Launch work doesn’t always look Insta-pretty. But it builds the foundation your business needs to actually bring in clients.
Here’s what it looks like:
Finalizing your offer (yes, even if you’re still doubting it)
Mapping the journey from how someone finds you to how they buy from you
Writing (not just thinking about) your sales page, emails, and confirmation messages
Setting up tech, testing links, and making sure it all works end-to-end
Publishing, even if it’s not 100% perfect
This kind of work moves the needle.
It’s what separates the dreamers from the launchers.
And yes, it can be uncomfortable. It requires focus. It brings up all your inner fears about being seen, ready, and “good enough.”
But this is where the breakthrough happens. Not in the branding board. In the build.
Why We Default to Busy Work (Especially When We Know Better)
I want to say this out loud in case you need to hear it today:
You’re not lazy.
You’re not unmotivated.
You’re not bad at business.
Most women I work with are brilliant, driven, and capable.
But when it comes to launching, they’re overwhelmed—not because they can’t, but because they’re trying to do everything at once.
When you don’t have a roadmap, everything feels urgent.
You don’t know what to prioritize, so you default to what feels doable now.
And usually, that means:
The visual stuff (because Canva is comforting)
The research (because learning feels like action)
The rework (because maybe it’ll be better this time)
This is exactly why I created the Funnel Rescue Package. To give you the structure and support, you need to stop spinning and start launching.
You bring your offer, I’ll help you map and build the funnel that brings it to life. Simple. Focused. Strategic.
But even if we never work together, this next step is something you can do right now.
Take Inventory
Are You Busy, Or Are You Launching?
Here’s a simple litmus test I use with clients:
If I asked you to send me a link to your funnel right now—could you?
If not, what’s the actual holdup?
To help you spot the difference in your workflow, I created a short, printable checklist you can keep by your desk. It’s called:
The “Busy vs. Building” Checklist: Download it!
Use it whenever you feel like you’ve been “working on your launch” for hours but still can’t point to what’s actually finished.
Final Thoughts
Launching Isn’t About Doing More. It’s About Doing the Right Things.
You don’t need to hustle harder. You need clarity.
You don’t need to DIY your way into burnout. You need a plan.
You don’t need to chase someone else’s strategy. You need your own path to results.
And if you’re tired of checking off boxes without seeing traction? That’s your signal to shift.
Your offer deserves to be seen. Your audience is waiting.
Let’s stop organizing and start launching.
